The Vaults Tour

The Vaults is one of Edinburgh's most popular Ghost tours. The history of this tour is interesting and the tour itself is an 'experience'.

This late 17th Century slum for the poor became the centre of crimes, including robbery and Murder. The famous Burke & Hare, are also rumoured to search the vaults looking for more victims to murder.

The tour itself is gloomy and allows visitors to experience the dark history that once took place in the dark rooms. Visitors come in search of contact with a spirit - and many claim to have felt or seen ghostly presences. The tour will take you through the candle lit corridors, viewing different parts of the Vaults where it is rumoured voices of children can be heard. Spooky!

You can book tickets for this at: http://www.mercattours.com/

Ticket prices
Adult - £7.50
Concession -£6.50
Child - £4.00
Family - £19.00

Edinburgh Clubs

If you have come to Edinburgh for the clubbing then here are a few of the highlights to make the most of your night(s)...

Stereo - Located at 28 Kings Stables Road, Stereo is a popular club within Edinburgh. Depending on the night it is usually jam-packed...mainly students. The music varies but often plays cheese/ hip hop r&b. Entry is reasonable and there are several floors for you to chose from!

City - (1a Market Street) Another popular club in Edinburgh which in comparison is 'fairly' new. This club, although more expensive than many of the others (£8 entry at weekends) will guarantee you a goodnight. There are three bars (again, a little expensive) and a stage for you to prove your moves on! A definite highlight of what Edinburgh's nightlife has to offer...was it worth the apparent £4 million?? See for yourself....

Mood - A club you will either love or hate! Located next to the Omni Centre, Mood is generally really busy at weekends (a no-no during the week) , playing current chart music and very dated 80's cheese! It's cheep entry (maximum £5 on a Saturday) and the drink is reasonable too. However, the range of "clubbers" that head to Mood may not appeal to everyone's taste.........
It's cheap and cheerful and easy to stagger into if you have just fallen out of one of the bars in the Omni centre!

Faith - (Wilkie House, Cowgate) I you plan a night out here then it's probably best to go at the weekend. The music is better and there will be a bigger crowd inside. Faith is a cheap night out and there are plenty pubs nearby to start of beforehand.

Lava & Ignite - (3 West Tollcross) One of Edinburg's newest 3 room venue's this club is popular with stag & hen parties. It is reasonably priced (around £5). Best to visit on a Friday or Saturday (or student nights Wednesday & Sunday) when the best crowd will be here. The music varies depending on which room your in but it's mainly dance, r&b and chart music from the 70's until present.

Edinburgh Nightlife...Bars!

It's no surprise Edinburgh is a top destination for weekends away for stag/ hen weekends due to the choice the city has to offer. If it's a weekend you are here for it's impossible to sample all of Edinburgh's nightlife highlights! There are several standout pubs and clubs that shouldn’t be missed if it's the nightlife you've come for...

Frankenstein's: (26 George IV Bridge ) - a bar decked out to the theme of the horror movie. The bar offers a wide range of cocktails, drinks and there is often promotions (who can resist a free drink?!). The music here can vary but usually tends to be chart. It's worth a visit if only to check out the unusual theme and cheap drink! Visit http://www.frankenstein-pub.co.uk/ for more information.

The Filling Station: (235 High Street, OLD TOWN) - Located on the High Street this American style bar is decked out with obvious memorabilia. It’s often really busy and the foods not bad either!

Bar Khol: (54 George IV Bridge, OLD TOWN, Edinburgh) - Established in 1993, this bar offers around 250 varieties of Vodka to sample! It's has a trendy appearance and often fills up with students. Playing r'n'b music (loud) this bar is a popular destination for all. It's probably not the type of bar you would spend all night in but it's definitely worth a visit at some point. The selection of drink on offer is extensive and is claimed to have one of the best cocktail selections in Edinburgh... You should note; it's not cheap!

Tonic: (34a North Castle Street) - A swanky cocktail bar. It has received rave reviews and again has a cocktail list that you could get lost in. Probably best to avoid if you're watching the pennies, if not then this is the place. It’s also wroth noting this place is highly recommended for places to eat.

Assembly: (41 Lothian Street) - Located on Lothian Street... You can't really go wrong here. It's a relaxing cafe by day and by night it converts into a place where party-goers start the night. The prices can vary - it's not cheap but it's not too expensive either (you will more than likely find the odd posh student here!). If you are looking for a wide range of drinks with some top tunes then this is the place for you!

The Three Sisters: (139 Cowgate, Grassmarket)- You will either love it or hate it! This popular bar more often than not scores large amounts of crowds. The Three Sisters attracts many students and hen parties...but don't let that put you of, it has a great atmosphere! If you are looking for somewhere to have a quiet drink this probably isn't for you, if it's a wild Saturday night out, then start your night here!

If in doubt of any of these recommendations then you should play it safe and visit the Omni centre. Here there is a selection of pubs including the Australian themed Walkabout which is always lively at weekends playing a selection of chart music. It's cheap and a good starting point for your night. Also within the complex is Lloyds Bar. You can't go wrong in here... the drinks are reasonable, the music’s good and it's within staggering distance to several clubs!
